Writing Inspiration

Inspiration can come from anywhere. Often, the best inspiration comes from living and experiencing life. The more interactions you have with people in different scenarios, the more things you can draw from when you are writing. Or you just have a great imagination.

Writer's Block

Writers Block is considered a stagnation period. Maybe you have started writing and had a lot of ideas in your head, but all the sudden they stop. You can’t move forward. This can be for a multitude of reasons, one being focusing too hard on the manuscript when maybe you should take a break and incorporate yourself into daily life again for inspiration. Book Puma has some cool exercises to help you break free and get the juices flowing. Check out our Book Puma Platform.

Writing Word Choice

This is very important. If you are going to write to children, chances are you aren’t going to use strong words, such as Ubiquitous. It’s ensuring the language you use fits the story, the time frame and the audience. This isn’t the time to show the world you won the spelling bee in sixth grade.

Writing Grammar Tips

Slow down, read and read aloud. These things can help you catch any issues. Also, the more eyes you can get on a manuscript, the better.

Targeting Your Audience

This is something you should be paying attention to while writing. You need to make sure you are hitting the plot points and character development your audience expects. Understand if you push the envelope (Like the Neil Baggio series) you might need to be prepared for some backlash.

The Writing Process

This is different for everyone. The standard answer, though, is consistency in routine. The more consistent you are, the easier it is to turn your brain on and off. Check out our video series covering this and many more topics.
